A man was arrested Saturday after Sarnia police found his wallet in a Jeep that had been stolen and rammed into the side of a cop cruiser just hours earlier.

Police say the incident began around 7 PM on Nov. 28 when a white Jeep was reported missing from a house on London Road.

A patrol officer located the Jeep under an hour later and attempted to block it after it pulled over to the shoulder and stopped.

As the officer exited his cruiser, the Jeep accelerated and rammed the cruiser’s passenger side.

“The suspect continued to grind forward along the side of the police vehicle until entering the grass area past the gravel shoulder,” police said. “The stolen vehicle drove through the ditch, ran over a mailbox, and fled at a high rate of speed.”

Police didn’t pursue the Jeep for “public safety reasons,” but found it abandoned a few hours later on London Line.

They looked inside and found a wallet and photo ID sitting on the passenger seat.

Police used the evidence to locate and arrest 21-year-old Cyrus Wade of no fixed address the next day.

Wade was held for bail on charges of Theft of Motor Vehicle and Breach of Probation. He was later remanded into custody by the court, with additional driving charges pending.
