A 28-year-old Calgary man is in custody following a high-value drone intercept near Stony Mountain Institution early Sunday morning.
Stonewall RCMP were notified by prison staff at approximately 1:05 a.m. on February 8, 2026, that a drone had just dropped a suspicious package onto the facility’s grounds. Officers patrolling the area quickly spotted a vehicle turning onto Road 72N from Highway 7 in the Rural Municipality of Rockwood and pulled it over.
Police observed a black hard-shell drone case inside the vehicle. A drone was found sitting at the feet of the male passenger, still rigged with a large delivery package designed to be released remotely. Inside the package, police discovered balloons filled with drugs.
The seizure included approximately 355 grams of methamphetamine, 63 grams of cocaine, 59 grams of cannabis concentrate—commonly known as “shatter”—and 60 grams of tobacco. Mounties estimate the institutional value of the contraband at $600,000.
The passenger, David Mymin of Calgary, was arrested and has been charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking. He has been remanded in custody. The driver of the vehicle, a 34-year-old woman from Winnipeg, was released without charges.
Stonewall RCMP say the investigation into the smuggling attempt is ongoing.
