A violent lunch hour stabbing sent two high school students to a hospital and placed their school under lockdown, leading to the arrest of a 16-year-old who was on court-ordered house arrest at the time.

Around Noon on Thursday, Nov. 20, police responded to the area near Maxwell Heights Secondary School and found two students, ages 14 and 16, who had been stabbed off school property.

Both suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The school was put under a “hold and secure” while officers initially searched for two suspects.

The next day, police arrested one suspect after executing a search warrant at a residence.

Durham police confirmed the suspect is a 16-year-old male who had already been arrested and released twice in the preceding weeks, once for an alleged violent offence involving a weapon and once for breaching conditions, including house arrest.

The teen is now facing multiple charges in connection with the stabbing, including:

  • Aggravated Assault (x2)
  • Robbery
  • Possess Weapons Dangerous
  • Fail to Comply with Release Order (multiple counts)

He was held for a bail hearing. Police noted the investigation remains ongoing.
