A prohibited dump-truck driver was caught last week pretending to be his brother, who was sitting right next to him, say Burnaby RCMP.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, Nov. 18, during a planned commercial vehicle enforcement blitz on Lougheed Highway at Kingsland Drive.
The dump truck in question was initially stopped due to illegible dangerous goods placards. During the inspection, Mounties discovered the driver was prohibited from driving due to an earlier impaired driving offence.
He was also allegedly attempting to impersonate his brother, who was riding shotgun.
The driver now faces several potential charges, including impersonation and obstruction.
Burnaby RCMP also noted that over half of the trucks inspected during the one-day blitz were taken off the road for various safety violations.
Cst. Kevin Connolly with Burnaby RCMP’s Traffic Services stated that the number of trucks being placed out of service is “still way too high” and confirmed these enforcement initiatives will continue throughout the Lower Mainland.
